I saw in the comments that the script works even without a subscription. I tried it on Brave, but it didn't work.
Here's what I did:
1. The requirements say an old version of CAI Tools. You can find it on GitHub by downloading the code and unzipping the archive. You can install the unzipped extension in the extensions section by enabling developer mode.
2. I installed the script itself.
3. I launched any chat and clicked on the script itself, and got: "SUCCESS! Nyan model is set to default. Refresh the page!"
4. I refreshed the page.
5. The neural network model is the same (Pipsqueak).

What am I doing wrong?

So, I got it. The steps are the same, but with a slight difference.
Here's what I did:

2. I installed the Tampermonkey script itself.
3. I launched any chat and clicked on the script itself, and I got: SUCCESS! Nyan model is set to default. Refresh the page!
4. Refresh the page.
5. The neural network model is the same (Pipsqueak). LOL! It doesn't work! That's what I thought and even considered deleting it :D.
6. I clicked *new chat*. And finally, I saw the coveted Nyan model.

Would you mind giving me a link to that? I'm struggling to find it on github, I've never used that site before. Thanks a million for reading my reply! Also, do I put in the code to the "Unlock Nyan" extension, or a separate, custom extension?

Not the OP, but this is for anyone who needs to download the old CAI Tools: This is the GitHub that Valor51 is talking about https://github.com/irsat000/CAI-Tools.

Click on the green button labeled "Code" and then click "Download ZIP" at the very bottom of the window. After that, extract the "CAI-Tools-master" folder from the ZIP file and load the unpacked folder as a separate extension.

You might need to refresh the character.ai tab for the extension to run before you can click on the script.
