About: Hide Instagram DMs

This is a simple but effective Tampermonkey user script designed to give you more control over your Instagram experience on the web. It allows you to easily hide and unhide your Direct Messages (DMs) list with a single key press.

Features

  • Toggle DM List: Quickly hide or show your Instagram DM list (the "Thread list").
  • Simple Keyboard Shortcut: Just press the h key to toggle the visibility.
  • Persistent State: Your choice to hide or show the DMs will be remembered as you navigate through different parts of Instagram. The script uses a MutationObserver to ensure the DM list remains in your desired state even when Instagram's interface dynamically loads new elements.

How to Use

  1. Make sure you have Tampermonkey (or a compatible user script manager) installed in your browser.
  2. Install this script.
  3. Navigate to https://www.instagram.com/ and go to your Direct Messages.
  4. Press the h key on your keyboard. The list of your conversations will disappear.
  5. Press the h key again, and the list will reappear.
