Universal Force to High-Fidelity Video

Forces the highest available video quality (8K/4K with best fps/HDR), skips ads when possible, redirects YouTube Shorts to full player, and provides a lightweight UI for status toasts. Designed to run as a userscript across most video sites.

Features

  • Auto-discover video elements across DOM and Shadow DOM.
  • Enforce best available quality (prefers AV1, then VP9, then AVC).
  • Optional 60fps preference and ad-skipper for YouTube.
  • Redirect YouTube Shorts to standard watch pages.
  • Toast notifications for actions (with Shadow DOM fallback).
  • Menu toggles for enable/disable, AV1, Shorts redirect, and per-domain exclusion.

Installation (Chrome + Tampermonkey)

1) Install Tampermonkey from the Chrome Web Store.
2) Open Tampermonkey dashboard → Utilities → Install from URL and paste:

3) Confirm install. The script runs at document-start.
4) Auto-updates are enabled via the @updateURL header; Tampermonkey will pull new versions on its schedule.

Configuration (via userscript menu)

  • Toggle Script: Enable/disable globally.
  • Force AV1: Prefer AV1 where available.
  • Redirect Shorts: Redirect /shorts/<id> to /watch?v=<id>.
  • Exclude Domain: Add current host to the exclusion list.
  • Debug menu appears when debugMode is true in config storage.

How It Works

  • Discovery layer scans DOM + Shadow DOMs and watches mutations to find video elements.
  • Interaction layer simulates trusted mouse events to wake controls.
  • Platform modules contain site-specific hooks (currently YouTube; extensible for others).
  • Quality engine parses labels and applies best available quality when APIs permit.
  • Config sync uses GM storage; shims prevent failures if some GM APIs are missing.

Compatibility Notes

  • Aims to work on ~95% of sites; extremely restrictive CSPs or fully sandboxed iframes may block injections or messaging.
  • Toasts fall back to inline styles if Shadow DOM attach fails.
  • Menu commands require a userscript manager that supports GM_registerMenuCommand.

Test by loading the local file as a userscript in your manager. Keep changes small and focused; prefer adding platform modules under the Platform registry.
