Google AI - Default to AI Mode & 2.5 Pro (Gemini)

Defaults Google searches to AI Mode, selects 2.5 Pro, and repurposes the "All" button to go to Web Search.

This script automates settings in Google Search with AI Mode (Since Google is not letting us set defaults). It ensures every search utilizes the AI Mode and automatically selects the more powerful "2.5 Pro" model.

Features

  • Automatic AI Mode: Redirects all standard Google searches to their "AI Mode" equivalent (udm=50).
  • Default to 2.5 Pro: Automatically selects the "2.5 Pro" reasoning model instead of the default "fast" model, ensuring higher-quality AI responses from the start.

Requirements

  • A browser with a user script manager extension (like Tampermonkey).
  • A Google Account with AI Overviews enabled.
  • Your account must have access to the "2.5 Pro" model option within Google Search.
  • You must be in a region where this Google Search feature is supported.

Installation

  1. Browser Setup:
    • First, install Tampermonkey (or another user script manager).
    • In your browser, navigate to chrome://extensions (for Chrome) or edge://extensions (for Edge).
    • Find the Developer Mode toggle in the top-right corner and turn it on.
  2. Enable User Scripts in Tampermonkey:
    • Right-click the Tampermonkey icon in your browser's toolbar and select "Manage Extension".
    • Ensure the master toggle switch for the Tampermonkey extension is turned ON. This allows it to run scripts.
  3. Install The Script:
    • Click the green "Install this script" button on this page.
    • A new tab will open in your script manager. Click the "Install" button to confirm.

Usage

The script works automatically in the background. Once it is installed and enabled in your script manager:

  • Make a Google search from anywhere (your browser's address bar, the Google homepage, etc.).
  • The script will automatically redirect you to the AI Mode results page and select the "2.5 Pro" model without any further action needed from you.

You can toggle the script off in your script manager to revert back to normal Google searches.
