Friendlier ChatGPT Prompt Box

Allows you to just start typing with unfocused prompt box, scroll the conversation from the prompt box, quote pasted text, and more. Adds free space at the end of the conversation, so you can prescroll before text generation. Configurable via userscript storage.

Unfocused Prompt Box

  • The first intended input focuses the prompt box and inserts it - as if the prompt box was focused from the beginning.
  • The prompt box can be delibarately focused with Ctrl+P.

Focused Prompt Box

  • You can scroll the conversation with Ctrl+Up/Down. When the prompt box is empty, Up/Down suffices. For increased scrolling speed, additionally hold Shift.
  • Press Ctrl+Q to transform text into a Markdown quote.
  • Press Ctrl+B to transform text into a Markdown code block.
  • Ctrl+Q and Ctrl+B are applied to the selection, the text just pasted with Ctrl+V (not via other means), or the current line (in that order of priority).

Other

  • Should ChatGPT ever suddenly reset the conversation and remove what you were writing (which isn't unheard of), you can retrieve the last prompt box contents via a custom userscript command (see userscript manager fly-out; only until page reload).
  • With the free space added at the end of the conversation, you don't need to constantly scroll the newest generated text into view.
